1Introduction
Welcome to the Satec Model United Nations Conference. To ensure a rigorous, realistic, and high-level diplomatic experience, the secretariat has established a set of rules and expectations for all delegates. This framework is designed to uphold integrity, elevate your academic performance, and challenge you to draft highly creative, policy-driven solutions. The foundation of every successful delegate begins with their Integrity, Academic Excellence, and fostering of creative solutions.
1.1Academic Honesty & Integrity
SATEC will have a zero tolerance for any forms of Plagiarism, copying text from existing UN resolutions, think tank publications, news articles, or other delegates' work without proper citation is strictly prohibited.
There is also a mandate on Original Policy drafting. While we recommend delegates to study historical precedents and past UN actions, working papers and directives must be original and drafted during committee sessions. If you are suspected of Pre-written resolutions, you will be subject to disqualification. Bringing a pre-written paper into the committee or conference is strictly forbidden. The value of MUN lies in spontaneous collaboration and negotiation, not in presenting pre-fabricated documentation.
Where AI is a strong tool, and SATEC acknowledges the value of AI, it may only be used for background research and understanding of complex geopolitical issues and or concepts PRIOR to the conference. However, usage of AI to generate position papers, speeches, or clauses is considered an academic integrity violation and will not be tolerated.
1.2Academic Excellence: How to Stand Out
We expect our delegates to operate with decorum, knowledge, and strategic foresight of real international diplomats. To stand out in committee and be recognized for your excellence, focus on the following pillars. Command the Room with Knowledge, not with voice. Those who speak quality will be valued over those who speak quantity.
Ground your speeches in actual data, historical precedent, and a genuine understanding of your country. Avoid reducing complex global issues to black-and-white arguments. Stand out by recognizing the economic, social, and political nuances of the topics.
Do not wait for your turn to read a pre-written speech. Directly address points made by previous speakers, rebutting them or building upon them to keep the dynamic of the committee, and keep the conference forward moving.
2Rules
To elevate the quality of resolutions and push delegates out of their comfort zones, the committee is enforcing strict limitations on generic, catch-all solutions.
2.1Resolution rule
Delegates must rely on creative, realistic, and highly specific policy methods. Consider public-private partnerships, reallocating specific percentages of national budgets, introducing targeted international tariffs, leveraging microfinance, or implementing foreign direct investment incentives.
2.2Resolution rule
Delegates may not simply pool the treasuries of a wealthy group of countries to fund the development of global initiatives without clear, reciprocal incentives. Bilateral and multilateral agreements require mutual benefit. If funding is coming from donor nations, outline the strategic, economic, or security benefits those donor nations will receive in return.
2.3Resolution rule
Delegates may not create a brand new subcommittee to govern any given situation, except for a neutral investigation into corruption, or utilize existing international frameworks. Define exactly how an existing agency will alter the current mandate, change its logistical operations, or implement new protocols to address the crisis at hand.
